History of Names for A Fate To Destroy

I am an avid nature and animal lover, both have always meant the world to me and in every book I write you will see both intertwined in the worlds. One way I do this in A Fate To Destroy is that many names for the characters are from animals that have died due to human negligence or cruelty. I think it's important to give a snapshot of what they went through.

Hugo: Taken from the wild at 3 years old Hugo the Orca, died while in captivity from a brain hemorrhage after ramming his head against his tank walls.

Tatiana: 4 year old Siberian Tiger shot and killed when she escaped her enclosure at the San Francisco zoo in 2007 after a group of … you guessed it… men, threw rocks at her while roaring. 

Lucy: Female polar bear that was killed after mauling an 11 year old boy that climbed the fence to her and enclosure mates’ exhibit to swim in the moat. 

Nakai: Male orca who died after a severe injury to his jaw exposing bone. Believed to be due to Seaworld San Diego housing incompatible orcas together.

Lolita: Taken from the wild at 4 years old and lived at Miami Seaquarium for 53 years in a tank believed to be one of the smallest to ever house an Orca, dying just before the public outrage forced the Miami Seaquarium to agree to relocate her to a seaside sanctuary. 

Asiryn: An elephant which was shot over 80 times after she killed her trainer who was known to beat her so severely it caused the animal to scream in pain. 

Laika: A stray dog plucked from the streets in Moscow, died from overheating, she was the first living creature to be launched into space on Sputnik 2. 

Albina: The second dog chosen and tested to be launched in space but wasn’t chosen due to having puppies.

Other names are just ones I've heard, or seen and liked enough to put in my notes app!
